Lifehaven Womens Support Society

Our Story

Executive Director & Program Director Teresa Trask served as a Victim Services Support Worker with the Abbotsford Police Department for many years. She also spent over 10 years taking her guitar with her to share times of music and encouragement with women in various recovery homes within the Fraser Valley. During this time she noticed there was a substantial transitional support gap for women beginning the difficult process of creating a fresh start within the community after having completed an addiction recovery program.

In this time of transition many women become overwhelmed with the burdens of re-entering society, where often they don't know where they will live, how they will support themselves and possibly their children, or how they will face difficulties such as mounting debt, a lack of education, etc. It became evident that appropriate, comprehensive support was necessary in order to address these concerns.

This began a conversation between board members about how we could help Bridge the Gap and support women during this critical period of transition. As a result Lifehaven Women's Support Society was formed. This grassroots society currently operates out of a home office where we provide support services, counselling, as well as referral services to clients.
